WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU!

Expressions of Joy Dance Academy helps children and adults to develop their artistic and dance gifts for the glory of God. Our classes all emphasize the mastery of techniques to free performers’ minds for praise, worship and ministry. All of our classes are taught using Christian or classical music and we offer a variety of dance styles including MUSICAL THEATER. Thestudent/parent should always refer to the student HAND BOOK for any questions regarding the school, policies, calendar and performances. We offer a full dance curriculum with early and late afternoon and evening classes. Current areas of study include:
Ballet and Pointe
We offer ballet from age 3 through adult with a strong emphasis on the Vaganova syllabus. Pointe is offered for properly prepared ballerina’s age 11 and up. Classical as well as Christian music is used for classes. Josi Geyer, Alison Davis and Mary Kathryn Paradice teach in our ballet program.
Lyrical
This form is most popular with our church dance ministry students. It brings classical dance techniques into the interpretation of praise and worship music. Josi Geyer teaches our Lyrical classes.
Mime
Our Mime/Interpretation class is taught by Deanna McDaniel. She combines traditional Mime (whiteface and all) with Interpretive Dance. Her evangelistic choreographies are amazing!
Tap
Popular with kids and adults alike, tap provides a fun, energetic way to present all types of music. We offer several classes which combine tap with either creative movement (pre-ballet) or jazz, and now also advanced Rhythm tap. Alison Davis is the teacher.
Jazz
Alison Davis is also our lead jazz teacher. This class uses high energy contemporary music giving dancers great techniques in modern and classical jazz with a strenuous workout.
Contemporary Dance
New to the academy repertoire, contemporary dance is a collection of systems and methods developed from modern and post modern dance. Rather than focusing on technique, contemporary dance as a field is more focused on choreography and presentation; as a result, there has been limited development of technique. Instead, contemporary dance draws on modern dance techniques and an array of still developing philosophies of movement based on study of the human body and body/spirit inter-relationships such as, Graham, Horton, Humphrey, Release, and Improvisation. Because of its “freedom”, contemporary dance lends itself to very expressive praise and worship! One of ours Creative Director Maurice Adderley teaches this intensive contemporary class.
Hip-Hop
Josi Geyer, Alison Davis and Marc Fenton bring a variety of influences to our Hip-Hop dance classes.
Sharpen Your Skills
Recording artist Prodigal Son offers a five week boot-camp for vocalists teaching stagecraft, choreography and audience interaction.
Salsa
Michael Ruiz teaches Latin social dancing with a strong emphasis on LA-style Salsa. Our advanced classes prepare dancers for the Salsa Praise outreach team. For beginners and intermediate “Salseros” we offer a Casino Rueda program. This style is reminiscent of square dancing with named moves called by a leader, but the steps are pure Salsa!
IN THE YEAR OF 2008/2009, EXPRESSIONS OF JOY DANCE ACADEMY WILL ADD THE FOLLOWING CLASSES:
MODERN, FLAMENCO, TANGO, MESSIANIC, RHYTHM TAP AND MUSICAL THEATER!
No classes (for 2009-2010) on Labor Day, Thanksgiving week (November 23-27), Christmas break (December 24 through Jan 03), Good Friday, Memorial Day and Independence Day. Our school is also closed for Spring break week
(March 29 through April 02).
